The pre-judgement I've been seeing for Gotham looks pretty bleak.
I'm willing to give it a chance.

I enjoy Arrow, but wouldn't buy it on BluRay. I plan to with SHIELD.
SHIELD is just more 'my' kind of show - less dark, and actually has superpowers (and stuff). Yes, I know Arrow will soon have the Flash; Yay! Powers!

Most of those are the 'edgy', cynical, nasty, mean-spirited things that put me off. To the creators, I say this: congratulations! You're trying to make the world nastier and more cynical? Well, every time I hear about your work, my reaction is cynicism and nastiness. Mission accomplished.

A supposed list of what DC has planned for the big screen for the next few years:

I don't know why, but that list seems very strange to me. Just an odd set of selections. Of course, Wonder Woman and Sandman have been rumoured since forever.

I would say this about it all. DC characters are very different from Marvel's characters, and due to that I think DC has a whole different set of hurdles to leap over to make these films work. That said, I HOPE they work; good superhero stories are good superhero stories, whether they are on the big screen, small screen, or in print. And we need more of them.

For DC though, it isn't as simple as following the route that Marvel has taken, they really do need to plot their own way in order to make this thing work. And i wish them good luck.

The problem is, so far their way has been Batman. And nothing else.

Their films that haven't been Batman haven't worked for me.

One good reason why they need to try something a little different.

Personally, i think they need to work harder at making their heroes more "fun', to get them to work better on the big screen.

Green Arrow has worked well on the small screen. But they cannot just transplant him to the big screen, it wouldn't work, and besides which Arrow isn't a very "fun' character.

I'm not saying they all need to be funny, but they do need to appeal a little more to people who aren't all deadly serious. Do what they want in the comics, and on television, but think 'bigger picture' for movie-goers.

Akiva Goldsman is still attached (he'd been rumoured to be doing a TT movie once).
He's a writer whose career I've been following with great interest.

Some of his film debits, off the top of my head:
Deep Blue Sea (exec producer only)
    Batman Forever
    B***** *** ****n
    Lost In Space
    Jonah Hex
    Constantine
    (movie, not TV series)

    etc...

I told you I follow his career with great interest?
Every once in a while, I look him up on IMDb (Hm... I should do that soon) and check what movies he's writing, producing, and now directing...
... and absolutely refuse to go to those movies.

(The last one he was attached to that I knowingly went to was Star Trek '09 - but he was only in it, he didn't do anything that could damage it.)

I liked the Jonah Hex movie. Didn't love it, but I liked it.

I basically find that most of Akiva Goldsman's movies are exciting and action-packed, but so incredibly stupid that I come out of them more insulted than entertained.
Come to think of it, when I read Da Vinci Code, I had that same reaction, and felt it was the literary equivalent of an Akiva Goldsman movie.
That was before it actually became one.
