I'm playing as a Bosmeri (Wood Elf) Hunter. Archer+sneak+cannibalism. Oh the lore accuracy of it! <3

To tell the truth, nope, never heard of it. Heard of Elder Scrolls, but never seen it (except for a picture of the box cover). I'm more a Baldur's Gate/Neverwinter Nights kinda gamer, with some Dragon Age thrown in for good measure.

I need to play the games you listed. I loved DA:Origins, but hated DA:2.

Skyrim is an open world where you can move freely around the map unlocking quests, crafting, hunting, etc at will. Exploration is pretty much the biggest selling point of this game. The combat is ok but could be better. The character customization part is fantastic, with each race having some distinct traits. The perk tree system for upgrading is descent. The lore is phenomenal, and spread throughout the map via books you find and NPCs you talk to. I wouldn't place it on as high a pedestal as Morrowind, but it's at least a worthy successor if a bit casual.

This is a section of a larger map. Most places are not marked on the map for you, you have to discover them. See them there mountains? You're going to be climbing those, weather by road or by carving your own path through the wilderness.

You'll find shrines, ruins, small villages, caves, and all sorts of stuff in your travels.

edit: After reading up on it a bit, decided to plunge in and make the purchase. Looks like fun! Looking forward to trying out the Argonian race!

It has some flaws, but is definitely worth the price. Argonian is my sister's favorite race, too. Did you get it for PC or X-Box?

PC; that's the only gaming platform I own. I'm "old skool", lol.

I am also interested in the Khajiit race, but need to find out first (game won't arrive for a week or two) if claws are the ONLY weapon they can use, or are all weapons open to them?

Talked to a workmate about this game last night at work, he mentioned that his best friend plays it religiously and is a hard-core addict of Skyrim; workmate says it is "simply amazing".

Well, Khajiit don't fight with their claws, because Bethesda didn't pother to create separate combat animations for different weapons much less different races. All races have access to the same weapons, just different race related starting stats. (Argonians and Bosmer start off with %50 disease resistance, for instance, but a weakeness to magic)

It's one of the flaws, IMO. Luckily as a member of the PC master race, you can install mods that fix a lot of the game's short comings. I'd recommend hanging around the Elder Scrolls General thread in /vg/ on 4chan for info on the best mods and help with getting the most out of your game. Sometimes the threads will just be full of people posting their 'waifus', pics of the sexy females they designed in game, but I've learned a lot I didn't even know about the lore there, and have seen a lot of great mods talked about.

I think you can use claws as a werewolf, btw. I haven't tried being a werewolf yet. Since the animations and programing probably exist for that, I imagine a modder could easily apply it to Khajiit and Argonians.

There's a combat improvement mod that adds different damage values to different parts of the body, too, for more technicality and realism in combat. There are also a lot of HD texture packs and graphics improvement mods available already. The game is still fairly new, but will get better and better over time as the modding community adds more depth and content to the game.

Oh, and in the game, read 'A Dance In Fire'. It's awesome. Bosmer are freekn' awesome. I'm so glad their appearance finaly fits their lore.


You'll actually meet more attractive Bosmer than the presets, but this gives you an idea.
