Guess I'll be picking up this issue.
Although I commend MARVEL for the 8-issue run, I'm rather glad that "Heather" referenced "killing" Snowbird (which, ironically obviously didn't stick) and places it even more firmly on the MANTLO-timeline...even more than the inclusion of Purple Woman.
I'm not a big fan of the Mantlo timeline, but what's done is done. Those comics exist...whether they are plausible and consistent or not.
I agree that James (I prefer to call him that instead of 'Mac') is more interesting, focused, and determined this time. While I think the twins got more attention to the detriment of Walter, Shaman, and Snowbird, all-in-all everybody had a moment to do their thing.
What I really would like to know is why The Master thinks a cannibal (Wendigo), a thrall to the GREAT BEASTS (Ranark), the Purple Woman, and a man in an adamantium exo-skeleton are the best-of-the-best to populate/subjugate the stars. I wish the creative team had time to explain that.

Once upon a time, they exploded from the pages of The X-Men. For a moment, they were "Canada's answer to The Avengers."
They were ALPHA FLIGHT....
...once upon a time.
My only thought on that is, maybe he just used what power was available/who he had access to (including Heather and Aurora), but of course, it's really who the writers wanted to bring back into the world of Alpha Flight. He probably also saw all of Alpha Strike as dispensible anyway. I'm rather glad we didn't see the Master's version of Omega Flight return, though...I was not a fan of those characters.

ALPHA FLIGHT IS RESURRECTED, LONG LIVE ALPHA FLIGHT!
The trick to writing good villains is to make the reader fear and like them at the same time. The characters you reference 'could' have been good...they just weren't written to be fear-y or like-able. In that sense, they were throw-away characters. Unfortunately, AF has been littered with bit characters like that.

I shoulda posted my comments on volume 4 in a volume 4 thread. D'oh! Anyhow, I agree with Dana that the vol. 4 group is more formidable than the Master's "Omega Flight", but I'd still think most of the rest would be kind of leery of WENDIGO. How they kept him "under control" is just one of those things I wish could've made it into the series.
Moderator(s), move this if off-subject.
