I've always thought of New Warriors as the most Alpha-like team that isn't Alpha.
But honestly, I'm not sure any of my suggestions have the diversity of personality you mention - origins, certainly, but not personality.

I liked the Champs because it seemed that Ghost Rider was the odd man out. He was the only "non" hero of the team, and they accepted Dark Star in to the ranks while everyone still feared him. Black Widow thought that he was sexist, Ice Man never liked him, Hercules didn't trust him (much). The other four seemed to get along as better with each other than they did with GR.

It sure dose. Kind of reminds me of Canada Post. Big evil money grubbing Empire, that wants to stomp on the little people.
