With the energy he released, he just managed to rip open a dimentinal barrier, letting Tanaraq into his body. Probably would have died in the experiment otherwise.
Yup, he failed pretty thoroughly at recreating the Hulk like everyone else did, but accidentally succeeded at making something new!
