Default Was this McFarlane Alpha Flight promo piece published?

    Hello Alpha Fans,

I am a big fan of the book, and actually started reading around issue 50, so I like that version of the team more.

I just acquired this Todd McFarlane original promoting that team: http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryP...854&GSub=22461

I didn't even know it existed until now, was this used to promote the new direction of the book? Does anyone remember which comics (& issues) this was printed in?

    Thanks!

    Malvin

Nice find, a recreation of the fake battle with the CF. Maybe that page was used in Marvel Age? I'll have to check my stash!

That's the splash page from issue 51. After AF loses the twins and Puck at Ungava Bay, Cody put's AF through it's paces against Canadian forces. (Someone mentioned that the troops were showing 'US Army' labels in either a letters page or a mail to the original list). It's Jim Lee's first ever work for Marvel.

Driftwood: Well, I got about a foot and a half. Now, it says, uh, "The party of the second part shall be known in this contract as the party of the second part."
Fiorello: Well, I don't know about that...
    Driftwood: Now what's the matter?
Fiorello: I no like-a the second party, either.
Driftwood: Well, you should've come to the first party. We didn't get home 'til around four in the morning... I was blind for three days!

That linked image is not from AF #51, but it is definitely based on the events of the opening splash, you're correct. On the cover of AF#51, one of the soldiers in the foreground does have a small tag that reads, "US AR" presumably spelling out US ARMY.

I'm still checking my Marvel Ages, didn't have time after dinner tonight due to finale of BSG75...

I recognize the image as events from AF51, but its definitely not from that book since Jim Lee did those interiors this is Todd McFarlane.

When I bought it, I was told it was a promo piece, so I am guessing some Marvel comics before AF51 had some ads that promoted a new direction. I just want to know which ones! I always like to have published versions of original art that I own.

Unfortunately, my stash isn't so complete for Marvel Age. It should be solicited around Marvel Age #53, 54, or 55, probably #54, but I either don't have those issues, or they are over at my dad's house buried beneath his Wonder Woman collection...

I'll keep digging. Someday we will find out!

    Hi rplass,

Thanks for the info, at least I know where to look. I'll find some Marvel Age at bargain bins and see if its there!

Ack!, steered ya in the wrong direction, no, it's not in any Marvel Age, checked my notes and some actual issues I found...

Sorry about that, hope you didn't waste time/money except if you did find issue #54 of Marvel Age, you can see an interesting cameo from Aurora, reprinted from AF#50 but with a different color scheme.

If you found Marvel Age #53, look on the back cover, you'll see Puck on the cartoon calendar.

If you found Marvel Age #55, there's a little scene recreated from the battle with the CF in AF #51, but it doesn't use the art you posted. Also, look on the back cover and you'll see Box on the cartoon calendar.

Sorry, #55 is the closest you'll get, but it's not the same image, oh well.
