Default Vindicator on the cover of Alter Ego #71

Roy Thomas, Stan Lee's successor at Marvel for Editor-in-Chief, edits a Golden/Silver age fanzine called "Alter Ego." The cover of issue #71, styled after a famous Kirby cover (What If... #9), features Vindicator drawn by Canadian artist George Freeman, an artist for Captain Canuck.

The lead story in this issue is about Canadian comic books, and it's very interesting! Can you name all the heroes on the front cover, Canadian comic fans? Not much mention of Alpha Flight, just that Vindicator is one of the most famous Canadian super-heroes, since the magazine focuses on Golden/Silver age stuff.

This issue is easily available, also at the publisher's website.

Top is easy - left to right, Captain Canuck (original), Guardian (JMH), Wolverine.

Bottom row not that tricky - Nelvana, Thunderfist, Doc Stearn (the original Mr. Monster), the Penguin, with the Dreamer above the latter two.

    Nice job, Loki!

Most of those had me stumped.

We know the three fellows above...On the bottom...Nelvana is the lady of the left, second to the right is Mr. Monster and on the far right is the Penguin. That's all I know.

I really wish more of the old Canadian "Whites" would be reprinted. I do believe Nelvana animation owns the rights to the Bell comics line. Nelvana, Johnny Canuck, Invisible Commando, Steve Storms, and The Brain.

I'd love to see more of the Canadian Golden Age characters. It'd be nice to see some (the ones now in the public domain) turn up as the Canadian equivalent of the Invaders.
