    Default Marvel Vault

I've done a search and haven't seen this posted. (And can't post to 'appearances'.)

For Christmas, the guy I think of as my best friend gave me The Marvel Vault. I just finished reading it.
(Give me a break; he lives in Sydney, so I didn't actually get it 'til a couple of months ago, and I reread Lord of the Rings between then and now!)

Pages 138-139 are about John Byrne, after (on the previous page) "The tensions in their collaboration finally led to Claremont (sic) leaving the The Uncanny X-Men to try his hand at writing his own stories."

"Starting in 1983, he likewise wrote and drew the Alpha Flight series, based on the Canadian super hero team he had created..."

There are two images: one above the above text, the front cover of Alpha Flight #107 (just the characters and the word balloon), and a half-page picture of v1 #1. The caption: "(Above) Eye-popping Alpha Flight designs. (Opposite page) Byrne solidifies his place in the Marvel ranks with Alpha Flight"

Looks like there is some respect out there!

BTW: Sorry, I won't be scanning it. It's a very big book, and my home scanner is too small, and I don't relish the idea of taking it to work. (I spend half the trip on a bicycle.)

    .... WHAT... ?!?

Sorry Trewqp, but I REALLY didn't understand that. And PLEASE tell me you are joking.

John Byrne is the writer/creator/artist of the original 28 issues of Alpha Flight (plus their 3 or 4 previous issue appearances in X-Men) in the early '80's.

"Lord of the Rings" was written by J.R.R. Tolkien, and published in 1954. Not really sure how you got those two confused...

I think it was because I referred to LotR in my post.

That, or we can blame Narya--the ring or the superheroine, you decide.
(Of course, if AF had ever faced a certain pterodactyl-based X-Villain, we'd be in REAL trouble.)

Based on your recommendation, I picked up a copy of the Marvel Vault. Boy, is it big. I'm glad it comes with the cardboard spacers to keep it in shape because it's rather delicate. The little reproduced collectibles are fun and I like how they put it all together. It sure is big. It's even bigger than the Marvel Chronicle box!

Now I am thrilled to see not one but TWO Alpha Flight covers included in the illustrations, very very nice. Oh, just to clarify, artwork from the cover to Alpha Flight #107 is reproduced, not Uncanny X-Men #107 (as I mistakenly thought at first).

I got mine from abcdistributing.com for $19.95, which is 30 bucks off the cover price, not a bad deal.

    Love,

My bad - I read it that way, too, just now, and I wrote it! I've edited the original post.

Also, since I now have a decent scanner at home:

(I used to have an indecent scanner. It kept sucking on its trousers and giggling.)
