John Byrne talked about needing gays in comics because they exist in real life.

It makes me wonder why, then, they squeam away from topics like, say, masturbation? It's a little more common than homosexuality, but I've got one possible reference to it in 3,000 comics; and several openly gay characters. (This isn't me saying they shouldn't portray gay people, btw; I do agree with Byrne's assessment.)

And I liked Jésus Garcia complaint about gay and lesbians being portrayed as spending 90% of their time thinking about sex.

But I thought gay people wanted to be thought of as normal?


Martin Redmond got annoyed by the stereotyping of black people.

I agree. I mean, I know how it annoys me that anyone openly Christian is automatically evil, with very, very few exceptions. (ie: Nightcrawler and Daredevil. And if Christians I knew behaved the way they do, I'd soon stop thinking of them as Christian.)

At the same time, I understand why they're portrayed that way.
