    Default Losing a pet

My family and I had to put down my 14 year old dog tonight, she was such a great dog and I had no idea you could care so much for a pet.

She really was a member of the family, and I truely will miss her

I'm sorry. The same thing happened to me, once; 14 year old dog, really, really great. Then the cancer.

Sympathies. I had to do the same a little over a year ago and it was a hard choice to make.

So long as you know you took good care of her and that there was nothing more you could do for her, don't kick yourself for nothing though. And don't second guess. So many animals are abused and neglected, be happy that gave one got a good life thanks to you and your family.

    Hey KM,

I've been there several times, and it never gets easier. I still mourne the loss of my boyhood dog Sabby who passed on 5 years ago we had him put down at the age of 14. He passed with his head in my lap.

My sympathies are with you and your family.

Pets become part of the extended family. We've had pets since I was a chisler, so they are part and parcel of our family life.

Our own rescue dog is getting on, but she is a sturdy lass, but I dread the day.

Sympathies and please do get a new friend soon.

I held her head when we put her down and I could feel her slowly going to sleep and that point I couldn't hold it in and I'm not an emotional guy, but I loved that dog.

Thank you for all your kind words

That's always so heartbreaking. Last year, right before christmas, we had to put our dalmatian down, a dog who I'd literally grown up. I'd play with her since I didn't have siblings and it was awful when the doctor found cancer in her lungs. But it was absolutely the right thing to do, and I know that you know that. I'm so sorry for your loss.
I seriously want the Walter stuffed animal from AF #106. Seriously.

You have my sympathy. Believe me, I do understand how you must feel. My family had several cats over the years, and two of them had to be put down. One, Mary, had kidney disease, and the other, Parker, (also 14 years old like your dog), had an incurable tumor. Both had to be put to sleep on the advice of the vet.

Fourteen years is a good long lifespan for a pet. I'm sure it's to your credit that your dog had such a long and good life. My deepest symapthy to you and your family.

Same here. Up to that point, I was okay.

Thanks, we ended up burying her today at my uncle's farm. She loved running around there.

Not a big deal, but FYI Ben my real name is Andrew. I noticed you called me Jeff earlier, heck my mother to this day calls me by brothers name so no worries.

Sorry about your loss man. One of my cats died about 2 and 1/2 months ago. He'd been born with several birth defects. His kidneys never worked quite right and his back right leg didn't form right. But he hoped around with no problem. After about a year after we brought him home from a farm that my mom's friend owned he got really sick. We took him to the vet and didn't think he'd make it. But in some sort of miracle he got better. I brought him home. He hurt his good back leg but I got him some medicine and he recovered nicely. But his last Sept. he got really sick again. I took him to the vet, but this time he was just too sick and weak to recover.
I decided that putting him to sleep was the right thing to do. I went to work and set up a time later in the day to put him asleep. I was terribly angry and sad and upset all day. Crying and everything. I was working and got a call from the vet. He had died. At that very moment I began to cry. I was heart broken. I wanted to be there with him when he fell asleep. I was sad for quite a while and am now as well thinking about all this.
It just isn't fair. He was barely two years old. He was really the nicest and sweetest animal I'd ever seen in my life. I surely miss my little Chester. I buried him in my back yard that very same day with some of his favorite foods, toys, and blankets. I'd know he would like that.

It's true. Your pets aren't "like" family, they really become family.

Sorry that you had to go through the pain of losing a loved one. Unfortunately, that's the price that we pay for sharing our lives with a creature that often loves us unconditionally. As much as it hurts right now, try to remember all of the good times that you had with her. Your friend is at peace now and dying at age 14 shows that she had a long, wonderful life.

Sorry to hear the news brother. Losing a good pup is a terrible thing to go through. All my best to you and yours.
