Thread: Stupid question

  1. #1

    Default Stupid question

In a prior thread from the beginning of Civil War, it was said or implied that AF would be appearing somewhere around CW#5. Six has come and gone, and Front Line hit #10, with nary an Alpha appearance in either.

Was this misdirection, or is there possibly some truth to the conspiracy theorists that some of the delays in Civil War are due to content changes? The interviews with OF creators mentioned changes in OF#2 only seem to lend more credence to this.

    Thoughts anyone?

There have been a lot of things that have changed the direction and timing of CW. Millar's health I'm sure has been an issue, as has the overwhelming effect on the MU. So many characters and story plans have been altered by this, I'm sure that it's a real puzzle to put it together. Also, a tentitive plan from a writer looking far into the future on a roughed out story can't really be set in stone. Yes, this was Millar's original plan, but things change. I'll see what I can find out more definitively about this...if anything.

Uh...I thought AF was dead...How would they be appearing in Civil War (besides Guardian and Puck being featured in the original CW poster, for some strange reason)?...I don't get it.

AF as in what was at that point slated to be an AF relauch, which has since been revealed to be OF. Besides, AF is not confirmed "dead" any more that Speedball is. It's changed, evolved to hopefully last in todays market with great stories, art and characterization.

I couldn't find the original thread here, or couldn't find the posts in it that I remembered. I remember Mokole speculating that maybe the appearance would be Front Line 4 or 5 as the appearances of foreign heroes including possibly Alpha were slated to happen around Civil War #4 or 5. Ben at the time seemed to know something and gave one of his famously diplomatic "wait and see"s. I waited but haven't seen, so kind of assume (yeah, I know) that things changed.

I was wondering more after seeing more "assurances" that no content had changed and/or changes were not responsible for the delay

Speedball's alive if not well or using the same codename.
And Sasquatch sure looks alive in the OF preview pages. If Puck and Heather also survived Avengers #16, I'll be satisfied enough, judging in part from Talisman's inclusion in Omega Flight.

We already know that Speedball is alive...We still do not know who is dead as far as AF is concerned. They could possibly all be dead, save for Sassy (for all we know).

I may be remembering this wrong, but I thought I had seen an image of wolverine with the Canadian flag superimposed over his face. I thought at the time that it was supposed to be the cover of a book, and maybe even whatever next Alpha Flight project was planned.

I don't believe the Civil War stuff had fully started yet, but I do think that Alpha had been killed off at that point. I do remember Quesada saying something to the extent that while it wouldn't be an Alpha book as such, we wouldn't be disappointed with it, and confirming that it wouldn't be an all-american team of draft dodgers. Does anyone else remember that, and if so did that shot ever get used?

    I guess it wasn't relevant.

    Just to be curious...

Will Civil War ever effect Uncanny X men or X men or New Xmen? Or will this just be something that pretty much everyone pretends is in another universe or timeline?

Because the lastest Xmen sure hasn't seemed to have anything to do with CW.
I seriously want the Walter stuffed animal from AF #106. Seriously.

I heard that the value of that cover is skyrocketing.

    Was it a variant?

It was never stated to be AF, it was just along the lines of a team being renewed from CW, which is now obviously Thunderbolts.

And that's Werewolf By Night on the poster, not Sasquatch if I remember correctly.

I remember the appearance being referred to as foreign heroes' reaction to the American Civil War circa #4 or 5. The only foreign heroes I can remember seeing at all have been Micromax and Sabra in the CW: X-Men series, and none in CW proper or Frontline.
