Thread: a good question

    Default a good question

Since this is a forum about Canadian stuff, here's this:
How would you change Canada if you could? And I mean in ANY way, including ones that would require the power to rewrite history and alter reality to your will.
    Canada rules supreme.

Well, this thing's been here for a couple of hours, so I may as well have a go myself (this thing took a while to prepare, admittedly):

    Canada:
-would be a highly respected (and even admired) nation worldwide where everybody at the UN and everywhere else wants their opinions on all world and international matters and Canadians would always say something smart and wise and intelligent
-would matter (and far more than it actually does right now) and would be considered to
-would not be the 51st state, would certainly not be considered to be so, would be a real country and considered as such, and would never be or be considered to be the Americans' little buddy or servant who just does what they say, or a minion of Britain
-would never get pushed around by the Americans
-would have extremely tough immigration laws, meaning illegal immigrants would automatically be shipped back to where they came from, no matter what, and you could only move to here by claiming sanctity
-would have an awesome military easily larger and better than Britain's in every category, including the navy, air force and special forces, and we'd manufacture all our own military equipment (fighter jets, tanks, rifles, etc.), although no nukes and no nuclear engines in subs. the military would never suffer from budget cuts or other crappiness and would include things like stealth fighters and stealth bombers
-we wouldn't have gone along with that crooked deal to buy massively faulty, leaky, third-hand, 30-year old subs from Britain and would instead have used the money to just manufacture new subs and naval vessels ourselves
-Canada wouldn't be so ignored (everybody, especially the Americans, like to pretend that we don't even exist; if you watch the movie "Independence Day" where aliens try to destroy Mankind, you'll notice that we aren't even mentioned)
-wouldn't have allowed America to put nuclear missiles in it or transport nuclear materials across it
-wouldn't take crap from America or back down from them, or let them push Canadians around
-would have a top economy with many large businesses (many more than it actually has right now, as well as any and all it lost) and we wouldn't lose any to the Americans, the Canadian dollar would be worth 95+ cents US and Canada's economy would be going up, not the other way around. Canada would have major businesses in all commercial and industrial areas (computers, automobiles, military technology, building huge oil ships, etc.). the economy would include Avro which would not have gone out of business and would be very successful, and would be Canada's largest (though not only) military manufacturer
    -we would have no homelessness
    -no crime
    -no racism
-no minorities other than native indians and eskimos/inuits, just to maintain the Canadian archetype (which for some reason I always enjoyed...no, I'm not racist)
-peacekeeping, not policing meaning protesters (unlike in the situation where Chretian made the awful pepper spray joke) would never be stopped if they remained peaceful or even if they turned a bit violent. in other words, this would really be a free country
-nobody in the world would believe that Canadians are all lumberjacks who speak French, live in igloos and eat whale blubber with maple syrup on top
-nobody in the world would believe that Canadians all knew each other
-nobody in the world would say or believe that Canada sucks
-no narcotics use in the populace or desire to use narcotics meaning no damned Marijuana Party at the elections
-would have the world's greatest healthcare (in all areas even including things that aren't actually THAT important, like, say, free excellent weight loss programs), education (including totally free top-class college and university education), old age pension (retired citizens would get $50,000 a year even if they worked at McDonald's their whole life), transportation, welfare, and other government public and social service systems and programs in the world, none of which would go down or suffer, and especially not due to budget cuts which would not happen to said social services/programs at all as they would be installed permanently
-would have low taxes and could afford all this great stuff due simply to having such incredibly intelligent and skilled financial managers which they would
-would have no pollution and an absolutely perfectly super-clean, undamaged, pristine environment which would always stay as such, EG, the water in the Fraser River or Lake Ontario would be easily clean enough to drink
-would be Permanently (with a capital "P") entirely run by socialists
-would have a less wimpy national anthem...not violent, still peaceful, just not so wussy (same theme and mostly the same lyrics as "O Canada", but with less peace and love stuff)
-would have less wimpy national animals meaning that instead of a beaver (a slang term for a woman's genitals), moose and loon (crazy person), we'd have a polar bear, cougar and timber wolf
-in that old indian tongue, Canada would mean "nation", not "village"
-would have easily and single-handedly beaten the Americans in the War of 1812 without any help from the British
-would be constantly snowy and cold all year round (which all Canadians would enjoy), except for in the winter in Vancouver and Toronto where it would be constantly quite warm all summer but not too hot
-would have the best and most powerful beer in the world
    -Tim Horton's wouldn't suck
-Quebec would not try or at all want to leave Canada but would completely retain its own culture, language and identity
-Canada (government included) and Canadians wouldn't be afraid or hesitate to stand up against the Americans every bit as hard as they'd have to if the Americans tried to push them around, mess with them or tell them what to do
-would have the world's greatest hockey team by far
-would have an advanced space agency that would actually accomplish lots of things and be significant in that area of things
-would not at all be responsible for the situation of the Third World (contrary to popular belief, we ARE for our size every bit as much as all the other successful first-world nations)
-would have a larger population-Vancouver would be twice its current size including the downtown area and would have subways instead of that crappy Skytrain, Toronto would have already been a city of well over a million people by the turn of the century (the 19th turning into the 20th, not the 20th into the 21st) and in WW2 would already be a few million, and at that time Vancouver would be, say, over 1 million
-they'd actually update and replace the decades-old exhibits at Science World in Vancouver once in a while
-indians would have more rights and be allowed to have more land so they wouldn't be so badly ripped off
-there would be more national parks
-the CN Tower would be bigger than it is and would actually be the tallest freestanding structure in the world instead of those towers in Nepal
-my father, who used to clean air vents for a job, was able to literally casually walk right into an RCMP "secret" intelligence headquarters, get his job done, wander right out and nobody even asked him any damned questions. in other words, Canada would have a secret intelligence service/organization that would actually be secret, ala the CIA, and would also have a thing sort of like the FBI or Interpol
-non-Quebecer Canadians wouldn't always be considered to have "Bob and Doug McKenzie" accents
-would have no pedophiles, gays, feminists
-McDonald's, Disney and PETA would all be absolutely permanently banned from ever entering the country or having anything to do with it
    Canada rules supreme.
