1. How long have you been collecting Alpha Flight?

Since the end of vol 2 sadly. I went back and got most of vol 2 but haven't gone back to get vol 1 yet.

2. What was your first memory of Alpha Flight? If recent, what was your first reaction?

My friend had the issue when Puck was restored to regular height by the Firefountain. That was the first issue I ever read.

3. Who is you favorite Alpha Flight character?

Tough one. Uhhh. Sasquatch or Puck. Don't make me choose!

4. Who is you least favorite Alpha Flight character?

Uhm Manbot. He was a tool literally and figuretively.

5. Who is you favorite Alpha Flight villain?

Master seemed pretty badass though I'm going by him holding off Kang in Avengers.

6. Who is your least favorite Alpha Flight villain?

I kinda liked Scramble really think more could have been done with him. So as for unused potential Lionel Jeffries definitely

7. What do you think is the best issue / story-arch from Alpha Flight?

Any storyline with the X-men where its not all about AF getting their butts handed to them.

8. What do you consider the Alpha Flight "Dream Team"?

9. If you were to be stuck on a desert island with one member of Alpha Flight, Who would it be (powers can not get you off the island)

Puck's daughter. Oh yeah.

10. Who was/is/could be the best leader of Alpha Flight?

I'd say Puck. Did he ever officially lead? He's got the experience in my opinion.

11. Who is your favorite Alpha Flight writer?

Haven't read enough to have an opinion I don't think.

12. Who is your least favorite Alpha Flight writer?

13. Who is your favorite Alpha Flight artist?

Well I prefered the art at the end of vol 2 than to the start but vol 3 is blowing them out of the water.

14. Who is your least favorite Alpha Flight artist?

Again no opinion.

15. If you could undo one thing in Alpha Flight history, what would it be?

I'd not kill poor Mac off so often.

I forgot my dreamteam. Actually it would probably be something like the Alpha Flight we saw in early Exiles. Wolverine leading Alpha, Beta and Gamma Flights with Mac and Heather running Dept H. I love the idea of it being more than just a team, Hydra but good or something. The one problem they had was John Proudstar (the original Thunderbird) as Shaman.

So basically everyone working in different levels within a Dept H that works. You got Aurora and Northstar for long distance scouts, Marrina for aquatic work, Shaman and Talisman running the mystic side, Puck as the combat specialist.....I could go on all day.

My first memory was Mac/Guardian getting killed when his suit detonated. I was definately disturbed and bummed out...we had only just started!

Mac/Guardian though I love em all...

Major Mapleleaf currently... I like Logan and Judds humour not boyscout humour.

Mr Jerry Jaxon ofcourse... anyone that can partly engineer Macs death is worthy of hating the most.

I'm gonna change this to fave issue story run so; 17, Vol 1 Byrne... but really 1-20

A general thumbs down in series 2 for introducing those brothers with stupid powers... totally unconvincing. I treat series 2 as a whole like some Bizzaro world Alpha Flight that happened in Guardians dreams one night.

Guardians suit detonating... It would have been nice to allow Guardian to develop to atleast 50 issues before clocking his nutty wig once and for all.

Well, if you mean the first 28 iss's of volume 1, then you mean John Byrne, who both wrote and drew those famous issues.

John Bryne I'll pick to as my favorite on Alpha Flight. I liked the JLA issue he just did. Now that is how a comic should be done.

Since issue #66 Vol 1. The one that broke the fourth wall. I still love that issue and all of Mantlo's run. Yes, I know. I'm the odd man out, but it's what I started with.

2. What was your first memory of Alpha Flight? If recent, what was your first reaction?

First memory? Puck on some ad in another comic. I think it was one of the old Marvel Subscription ads.

3. Who is you favorite Alpha Flight character?

Weapon Omega/Wildheart. I miss the smart, suave Wild Child/Kyle Gibney! That one spread of him in the ship's chair with his hands steepled under his chin was just too cool. Though I have always loved Madison Jeffries as well. He was and is an awesome character, even if Weapon X made him into a wuss.

4. Who is you least favorite Alpha Flight character?

Wyre, of course.

The Master! Just found out recently Heroes for Hire stole him for a while? What ever became of that?

You walk a perilous path there Drakkar, oh and welcome , but Wyre is just misunderstood. Everyone saw him as just a Cable rip-off, but, after all he was the man who gave your fave character a decent origin, which has probably led to Wildchild being the most used character ever from Alpha (maybe ).

7. What do you think is the best issue / story-arch from Alpha Flight?

AF #13 Vol 1

I think that is my standard answer, whenever I get asked that question. The graveyard sequence, with that Sienkewicz (sp, I know ) type art and the lead up to the next arc, nice steady flowing story.[/quote]

Thanks for the warm welcomes! I used to belong to Tonto's list years ago about the time AF v.2 started or so, but real life got in the way. It's good to be around AF fans again


You know...it's been a while since I read my AFs and with this new series out I am gona get started again. Anyway, when thinking about favorite storylines I forgot one other that I loved very much and that was the one when Forge and Madison Jeffires merged to make the ForgeBox. That was a very cool concept with the two of them together and I would have loved to have seen more of that. Also, Diamond Lil's cancer storyline was good, too.

Heh heh, you were old-school, back in the day... Back when I didn't use my real name on the internet I stopped running the mailing list some years ago. Much like yourself, life got in the way. Glad to see you found your way here.

That run you speak of had some really good stories in it, the problem was that there were just too many characters to keep track of at that point, however there was some great stuff going on then.

The beginning of Mantlo's run wasn't bad, say up through the Sasquatch resurrection. The concept of Manikin wasn't bad, and was at least an original power. Persuasion was also a good creation, but the problem with her is the power. Its hard to have controllers as good guys. They either need to be limited lik Karma is to two people at once, or there always has to be new reasons why their power isn't working.
Mantlo's basic problems were:
whining as characterization. a single issue or two of ROM is quite readable, but did you ever try reading it in bulk: 75 issue of poor me and my lost humanity. His Hulk was the same, and the team book of Alpha only gave him variety in what people can whine about in the same issue.

His outright destruction of characters: Snowbird, Scramble, Deadly Ernest, Clementine etc.

The disdain for Byrne's creations that was evident in the stories, leading up to the new "better" team in #51.

But if you judge Mantlo solely on Alpha, you are limiting yourself. His prolific run on Micronauts was classic.

Was never around for the first two volumes but have been here for Volume #, in back issues i have gotten all of volume 2 and a third of volume 1

2. What was your first memory of Alpha Flight? If recent, what was your first reaction?

The story in the Avengers where they have to team up to save the people in the nuclear sub, I think it happend around Avengers 361 or something

Too many to name, always found og Guardian just cause how cool his suit is, Northstar and Sasquatch are other favorites from the original team, Wild Child is cool, Radius and Flex from Volume 2, and the new Puck and Nemesis from Volume 3 (I know Nemesis is from Volume 1, but Volume 3 is my first exposure to her)
