    Default John Byrne Influences

I've been re-watching original Trek over the last few months, and wondering how much of it influenced him. Since he's done work on Trek comics, I think he's a fan.

I considered bringing it up for discussion here.

Then, today, I saw this article:

Scroll down to the image of 'Super President'. Familiar?

    A few things about Trek:
Heather once commented 'There hasn't been anything worth watching since 1966'. Is that a Trek reference? It's the year of season 1, and maybe Byrne remembered it as the year of season 2 (and he doesn't like 3, as many fans don't)? I have no idea how easy that would be to figure out in 1986.

The description of Deadly Earnest's victims sounds a lot like the victims of the villain in The Man Trap (though the explanation goes somewhere else entirely).

And the whole 'they put me together wrong' reveal / speech could be from The Cage, the original pilot (how much of a chance did he get to watch that, though? Did it play in syndication?)

    Thoughts? Discussions?

Maybe the 1966 reference was to Batman?

You are a stupid seal with a small rooster. Translate that into french and you'll get it.
