I think the one saving grace is that Magik also appears to be in the same state, and she's currently a big player in Extraordinary X-Men so I reckon Strange will save the day & it'll be like SHIELD 5-6.

I haven't really seen them do the former... have they?
And the latter... well, they gave the space-protectors job to three of them, not the two dead. In the snow. we see above. (Agh! New Avengers #16 flashbacks!)

Both. I mean, they are using the team in the new Capt. Marvel series, and so far they are being written well which, in my books, is a way of promoting little-used characters. And they are now responsible for Earth's first line of space defence, so, yeah, both.
