Thread: Digitally coloring B&W Images.

    Default Digitally coloring B&W Images.

This is why I had done them as separate posts... easier to comment... but here's the run down:

Dark Phoenix version of the Death Of Marvel Girl coloring I also did (to show contrast)

I have always been a fan of the NEW DEFENDERS (right up there with Alpha Flight), so I _love_ coloring this!

This one is not from a comic, but rather a game called Toejam and Earl. If you have not played it, you're missing out.

As I said, I love, LOVE, LOVE the NEW DEFENDERS! Had such great diversity of characters (powers, appearance, personalities!) So I love, love, love coloring them!

Ambiguously named 15 - from uploading these, I don't even remember what this is at the moment...

This is from the comic book ElfQuest. If you have not read the Original Quest (at the very least), you're missing out on some of the most amazing story and art in comics - especially from an indie in 1979!

Ambiguous name, I have no idea what this is (since I uploaded all of these)...

This is the Marvel Girl version of the Dark Phoenix coloring I did.

Always enjoyed ROM and this was fun to color. The challenge for me was coloring ROM. He's normally pretty white, but it looked so plain - so I colored him a little off white/light grey.

I've got one issue of Elfquest. Twice.
I want more, but I'm not actively seeking it at the moment. (Money, donchewknow.)

Those are all very well done. Photoshop, I'm guessing? Do you use the wand tool? How do you keep between the lines? (When I use Photoshop, I always find there are breaks in bad places, and non-breaks where I'm trying to get all the colour.)

Let me help you with the ElfQuest problem...
The original Quest - all free, and legal - from ElfQuest.com:

    http://elfquest.com/read/index.php?s=Elfquest

    Siege:
    http://elfquest.com/read/index.php?s...AtBlueMountain

    Kings:
    http://elfquest.com/read/index.php?s...TheBrokenWheel

    And as for coloring...

All done with layers. What I do is put a layer over the B&W image. Then I change the transparency. Get the color right (transparency makes it difficult to get just the right color sometimes). Trace the areas, and then color those in. Flatten the image, then change the "faded" colors to the black.

    Thanks...
I've never managed that kind of work even with transparency.
Not with complex comic-book type images, anyway.

Once you do it a few times, it gets really easy. Trust me. If I can do it ANYONE can.

It's the tracing the areas part that I have trouble with.

That's the transparency part. Zooming in and tracing gets very easy.

If Tom B. (or someone) has a B&W image of it, I'd do it!

White. That was the joke. They'd just be blank panels.

Oh! Thank the Maker! I was seriously like, "There's no way he doesn't know what I'm talking about..."
