Are there legal ramifications for putting up fake election signs?

I'd hate to be branded a traitor by my government, and be on the run from them. That'd be scarier than fear itself...

Of course, for those unfamiliar with Canadian politics, Gary Cody election signs would only go up in the electoral riding that he was running in. In Canada, we vote for local politicians, and the party with the most elected officials becomes the government; the leader of that party, as long as they were elected in their own riding, becomes Prime Minister.

That's kinda how it wor-- happens in Australia, too. Only, it's usually a lot easier to find someone to vote against than someone to vote for. And I don't think I've yet had a chance to vote for a comic character...
