• Marvel To Release Northstar Series? [UPDATED AUG 6th]

Original article published February 19th 2015

    Bleeding Cool
have pointed out that on February 11th Marvel Trademarked the title 'Northstar' which is generally an indication of an upcoming series.

Now, the last time Alpha related-trademarks were made, they related to the digital versions of the original Byrne run so this could be for a digital version of the 90's Northstar limited series, however a quick look at TESS gives the following details:

"Comic books; printed periodicals in the field of comic book stories and artwork" indicates specifically printed material, which does suggest a new series... or possibly just a physical reprint.

However, the Trademark appears to be a continuation of one made 4 years ago and there's been no Northstar series during that time, which could suggest that Marvel is re-trademarking to stop other companies from using the name, even if they have no intention of using it:

We hope this means something though...

Bleeding Cool have since discovered and reported on Marvel's Trademark of 'Northstar' being suspended, which gives us an insight as to why the name was (attempted to be) trademarked in the first place:

On January 12th, Simon & Schuster had made an application for the words “North Star Way” for “Series of fiction and non-fiction books”
This hints that Marvel made the trademark application without any specific intention of putting out a Northstar title, and more just to cover themselves for the future.
Again, according to BC "Marvel’s application has been suspended for “likelihood of confusion”"

TESS seems to support this, with all the public documentation available.

So while they could still put out a Northstar solo title without the TM it seems unlikely now.

Although this is all still speculation and hearsay at this point.

Hmmm I wouldn't be surprised if they did to be honest. Guess we shall see. If he does sure the rest of the team will make cameos

This is one where I wouldn't be surprised either way.

(And this thread answers my question on the other thread.)

I was so hoping for a gritty HBO / Netflix type of series for Northstar, half superheroes, half hot gay sex... dark and hot. I know I'm dreaming since Fox would never make something like that, but one can dream, right?

I'd prefer a Puck series, but that's whistling in the wind.

I'm (cynically) guessing that an Iceman ongoing reduces the chance of us getting a Northstar ongoing soon...
