• Save The Date for... The Wedding of Jean-Paul & Kyle?

Today Marvel issued the following teaser image:

Now... Given that Liu recently mentioned that big things were afoot for Northstar in Astonishing X-Men, and that relationships were a big part of her run could these well be the wedding bells for our heroes?
I can't see anyone else in the line-up marrying...

Adding to that, if you take Dustin Weaver's words from the comment section of his recent #50 blog entry:

In the case of this cover, yes. They wanted Northstar to be the focus. He was also the main hero on the last cover as well. And wait till you see the next cover... I hope you're a Northstar fan. Actually, I'm super excited about the next cover.
It looks like it may well happen!
Of course, that could be what Marvel want us to think...

Solicits are due out in a week or so...

As for Northstar's possible marriage...I'm not sure I'm down with it. As far as Marvel (and some of the fan base) was concerned, marriage ruined Spider-Man. As a non-fan, I saw Peter's marriage to Mary Jane as a natural progression (they had been dating for what seemed like eons) and that it was meant to be...It just made sense that Mary Jane, the love of his life would become his bride. On the other hand, I personally think marriage has ruined Storm (I was an X-Men fan for many years and I really liked Storm) and Black Panther both (and it came pretty much out of nowhere, based on a briefly mentioned meeting they had when they were kids). AFAIK, the Elongated Man and his civilian wife, Sue worked well as a married couple, until DC decided to destroy the characters. There are characters that marriage works for (Like Reed and Susan Richards), others...Not so much.

I have to agree with John Byrne, "I speak now only as the creator of the character, so my opinion has no value, of course, but I really don't see Northstar as the marrying kind."

My personal opinion is that this is a publicity stunt (which is fairly obvious) and it will only serve to tie the character down (ball and chain and all that) and limit him.

Cool, FP...I'm in good company then . I'm very drawn to quirky, underdog types of characters and teams (like Alpha Flight and the Doom Patrol).

Doom Patrol always had their strings pulled from above, manipulating them, which reminds me of most of the Canadian government's role in Department H, as well.

How long ago was that JB quote from? Is that recent?

Oh my Dog...I forgot Heather and Mac...LOL! Mac and Heather were a great married comic couple, until his death...Which only served to make Heather a cooler character IMHO.

Very recent, in a JBF thread about the impending marriage.

      Has it been confirmed, then?

Not to be silly, but it sounds like JB is either confirming it, or has no clue and just asssumes that, since he was asked about it, it must be happening.

Northstar getting married? Persuasion will be crushed! lol - hope she crashes the party.

Well, I haven't read the JBF thread that came from, so I can't assume that his comment means he believes it's happening - it only shows he answered the question he was asked.
Those who have read it (which, for all I know, includes you, FP) may know different of course.

No confirmation...People are just going on the rumor articles of a wedding for Jean Paul and Kyle...And Mr Byrne chimed in.

Did he chime in voluntarily? I'm so used to him not being able to say anything nice about Alpha that i usually just prefer when he says nothing at all. Seems weird, if he just popped up and popped off about this topic.

There you go again, assuming i know what i am talking about. Sheesh! No, i stay away from JB's forums for the most part; they give me the willies. Its like being in a room full of psycophant Ultrons (Yes, i know I spelled that wrong - but my way seems SO much more fitting!).

      Yes, that's Ultri!

I like your spelling of psychophant...
I assumed nothing - on the contrary, I only pointed out that I didn't know you hadn't read it.

Ok, fair 'nuff. "Ultri"...i dunno, sounds too much like slang for "I'll try"...

If it is Northstar who is getting married, it would not be the first time one of the X-Men rushed into marriage. Cyclops married Madelyne Pryor like 7 issues after she was introduced.

Cyclops raising a kid and being married to a woman who looks just like Jean Grey made things awkward when X-Factor was formed. But from what I understand from various interviews, Chris Claremont did not think Jim Shooter was going to bring back Jean Grey. So when Cyclops came running back to Jean in X-Factor, he then basically ends up looking like a dead beat dad.

... read the JB forum thread, not the comic.

... checks... as much as possible, I've just confirmed that it is!
It's no more than eight. (I've got them collected in a trade, and it isn't always obvious where one issue ends and another begins.)
